This year's orphan

Each of the last three summers, when the whitetail fawns are about 8 to 10 weeks old, we notice that we have an orphan fawn visiting our yard. This is a photo of this year's orphan. We believe that the mothers are killed by poachers. We think that, so far, these orphans have survived into the winter. This little guy will need to find a group--a herd--to join for the winter in order to survive. Good luck little guy--or gal.

Gathering Pollen

The blooming purple coneflowers attract a variety of butterflies and hummingbirds.

Turns out it is a frog, not a toad!

A Cope's treefrog or Eastern gray treefrog.

And he or she has decided that sitting all day on the push-up thingy of my patio umbrella is the perfect spot for protection from air and ground predators plus a great view of the territory.

White Flowers on Bushes

Note the bugs on the flowers in the first photo!

A Weed by Any Other Name...

Gardeners say that a weed is any plant that is growing where you don't want it. Though I was told this is a weed, I decided that I like it!

Flying Insects

Clinging to the house, avoiding the rain perhaps?

Gotta find that insect field guide...

Eeek! I just washed my tail and can't do a thing with it!

Blurry photos of an early morning traveler through the back yard yesterday.

As I was pulling weeds near the deck this morning, my eye caught movement, and I saw a small, black-and-white striped face looking at me from under the deck. Eeek!

Wildflower

I still need to look this one up.
